President's Message

I’m incredibly honored to serve as your President in 2017. Although I may look like a recent college graduate, this is my sixth year serving on our Board of Directors (meet the 2017 Board) and tenth year volunteering for the chapter. I’m grateful for our chapter for many reasons. Not only have I learned a lot about financial planning, I’ve also made numerous friends. I’ve received much more than I’ve deposited.

What an interesting start to the new year. The U.S. stock market has reached new highs and, simultaneously, there is a great deal of uncertainty in the world. As much as ever before, financial planning professionals are needed to guide people through the inevitable challenges that will arise.

The reason our chapter exists is because we’re passionate about the idea of financial planning as a profession and the positive impact it has on the lives of others. We’re leading in its creation, adoption, and recognition, RIGHT NOW.

Our Quarterly Education Meetings are where our members find great value (Buy your annual pass here – for members only). We have an excellent meeting coming up on February 15th at UC Irvine. We may be on track for record high attendance by the way registrations have poured in – and for good reason (Click here to register if you haven’t yet). Not only will there be two hours of CFP Ethics CE, but we’ll also hear from Mark Powell, Andrew Fisher, and Stephanie Kelton.

Our reputation as one of the finest chapters in the country has been confirmed at national conferences and by the comments I’ve heard from many of our members. At the recent FPA Chapter Leaders Conference in Denver, we were recognized as the winner of three Outstanding Achievement Awards. The success of our chapter really stems from the excellent work done by volunteers at the committee level.

If you’re new to the chapter, I can think of no better way to get connected than by serving in a small way on one of our committees. (Click here to learn more about current volunteer opportunities). I’m sure glad I was asked by George Agopian to join the Membership Committee after I became a member of FPAOC.

If you have any questions or suggestions this year, please feel free to send me an email at: President@FPAOC.org
