With the landscape of financial services changing in the new DOL/Fiduciary age, attendees will learn how other countries have already gone through this transition, and what we need to think about as practitioners, to get ahead of the upcoming regulatory changes.  A pioneer in client building for financial professionals, Anthony Morris teaches advisors how to embrace the comprehensive financial planning process by demonstrating, through his 20 years of financial services research around the world, the most practical strategies to employ with clients to deepen existing relationships and ensure you stay compliant.  Anthony has seen firsthand the fiduciary landscape changes in his home country of Australia as well as the U.K., and with our country following suit, he will discuss ways to embrace the new landscape and what you can do as a practitioner to be prepared.  Some of his anecdotes will include language to use with clients to get them to take action as well as showing the templates, systems and techniques that he’s developed to enhance an advisor's business model and value add offerings.

Learning Objectives:

  • How to use “financial keys” as part of your comprehensive financial planning process
  • Essential advisor tools and processes in working with estate planning attorneys and other advisors: what you need to know
  • Emerging potential changes of the fiduciary landscape

Anthony Morris is an International Keynote Speaker & Practice Development coach working exclusively in financial services. His organization conducts coaching programs on 5 continents embraced by over 100 international companies. Global conference platforms since 1989 have been enthralled by the practical, step-by-step systems and techniques he shares in presentations that are as passionately presented as they are immediately useful.

Having consulted with some of the top financial services companies around the world and because of his personal experience dealing with the fiduciary changes that happened in his home country of Australia, Anthony has a unique vantage point on the upcoming changes happening in the Unites States. This experience has enabled him to be one of the most sought after practice management consultants in the financial services arena.  By implementing his system, process and tools, Anthony continues to help financial advisors grow their practices in light of the regulatory changes.

Session Title:
Implementing Health Care in Wealth Care

Level of Complexity: Overview

1 CFP CE
1 CPA CPE
1 CA Insurance

Health care planning is a significant unknown for financial planners and their clients. Organizations such as Fidelity and Employee Benefit Research Institute offer averages, and we know there is rarely an average person. Dr. McClanahan helps you refine how to plan for this unknown and how to effectively use health care information in various aspects of the planning process.

Learning Objectives:

  • Teaching you how to have easy and informative discussions with clients about health issues and how these issues impact client planning
  • Understanding the client's health care mindset so they can understand their part in controlling health care costs
  • Showing you how to incorporate the client's health care status with insurance planning, income planning, and advance directive

Dr. McClanahan began her career as a physician in 1990 after completing her undergraduate degree at Mississippi University for Women and medical school at University of Mississippi. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at the Medical College of Virginia. After a couple of years in private practice and emergency medicine practice in Richmond, Virginia, she returned to the sunny South of Jacksonville, Florida, to teach on faculty at the University of Florida, Shands, Jacksonville.

Finding that most financial planners were mainly interested in managing her portfolio and not in providing the advice she needed, she enrolled in the CFP® curriculum at the University of North Florida. Realizing the similarities between medicine and financial planning, and feeling more empowered by being able to help people plan for their future, Dr. McClanahan decided to make a career change into financial planning.

In addition to her financial life planning practice, Dr. McClanahan provides education to financial planners and health care professionals on the interplay between health and financial issues, particularly regarding insurability, health care costs, and health care reform. She writes for Forbes covering health reform and other issues intersecting money and medicine. Dr. McClanahan is a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), the Financial Planning Association, and the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Level of Complexity: Overview

Loss of financial decision making capability, need for new living situations, and driving status are important issues that occur in our aging population. Dr. McClanahan will share her firm's process for helping clients prepare for these scenarios long before the need arises. This will give your clients peace of mind and position you as a valuable partner in their planning needs.

Learning Objectives:

  • Guide clients through important decisions around long term care
  • Help clients understand the costs around their long term care decisions
